Lions Sweep Bloomburg

The State Ranked Saltillo Lady Lions opened up the 2nd round of District play with a convincing 70-10 win over Bloomburg.

Paula Boekhorst led the way with 19 points and 7 rebounds, Haylee Clover had 18 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists.  Melissa Groenwald added 14 points and 15 rebounds, Madison Simmons had 9, Ana Gallegos added 3 points and 10 assists, Rainey English also had 3 and Tori Mobley had 2 points and 5 assists.

The Lady Lions are now 6-0 in District play.


It took 4 extra minutes but the Saltillo Varsity Boys pulled off a 56-47 come from behind victory over Bloomburg.

The host Wildcats led most of the 2nd half by as much as 6 when the Lions tied the game up with 2 minutes to go in the game.

In Overtime the Lions made 7 out of 10 free throws for the win.

Jonathon Van Holten led the way with 23 points and 12 rebounds. Lane Bench had 14 points and 8 assists, Mathew Gurley had 9 points on 3 three point shots, Logan Camp added 5 while Walker McGill and Trevor Moore added 2 and Adam Valenzuela chipped in 1.

The Lions are now 3-1 in District play and will host the 3-1 Yantis Owls Friday night.


The JV Boys ran their District record to 2-0 with a 40-10 win over Bloomburg. Nathan Valenzuela and Jace Dunlap led the way with 10 a piece. Hendrick Rios and Levi Hoover had 6 a piece while Ben Moore and Pasqual Fiscal had 4 a piece.

Friday night is Pink Out Night as all 3 Lions teams will host Yantis beginning at 5pm.
